Brazilian Influencer Arrested After Bahia Drug Crackdown

Brazilian influencer Melissa Said, 23, who has about 340,000 Instagram followers, is accused of leading an interstate cannabis distribution and money‑laundering ring operating between Bahia and São Paulo and was arrested after being located hiding at a friend’s house following intensive surveillance. Police launched “Operation Erva Afetiva” and executed raids on five properties linked to her, arresting three suspected accomplices. Authorities said the raids seized about 1.4 kg of “skank” marijuana, 270 g of hashish, smaller cannabis portions, digital scales, phones, bank cards, cash and vehicles. Investigators allege Said promoted drug use, sold and distributed narcotics, counseled followers on evading law enforcement, and worked with suppliers in Bahia and São Paulo; the probe began after a 2024 airport drug incident. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years in prison, and authorities say the operation targets influencer-linked criminal promotion and trafficking.
