British Tennis Player Tara Moore Banned Four Years for Doping After CAS Upholds ITIA Appeal
British tennis player Tara Moore has been handed a four-year ban after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld an appeal by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Moore was initially provisionally suspended in June 2022 for testing positive for anabolic steroids nandrolone and boldenone, but was cleared in December 2023 by an independent tribunal that attributed the positive result to contaminated meat. However, CAS found that Moore failed to prove the nandrolone levels were consistent with meat contamination and concluded that she did not establish that the anti-doping rule violation was unintentional, setting aside the previous 'No Fault or Negligence' ruling. The ban, which starts from July 15, 2025, includes credit for the provisional suspension period Moore has already served. Moore had also filed a cross-appeal seeking to dismiss the ITIA appeal or confirm no fault, but it was declared inadmissible. The ITIA emphasized that their decision to appeal was based on scientific advice indicating Moore did not adequately explain the high nandrolone levels in her sample, marking a significant setback for Moore's career and reputation.
