China Urges Netherlands to Resolve Nexperia Dispute Impacting Global Chip Supply
Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao urged the Dutch government to promptly and properly resolve the dispute over Nexperia, a chipmaker owned by Chinese investors but based in the Netherlands, emphasizing the importance of upholding contract principles and maintaining stability in the global semiconductor supply chain. The Netherlands seized control of Nexperia citing national security concerns, which China claims has seriously disrupted global industrial and supply chains. Both ministers, Wang and Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans, engaged in a phone call at the Dutch side's request to discuss the issue, with the Dutch expressing willingness to maintain close communication and seek a constructive resolution. China stressed the need to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors and foster a fair, transparent, and predictable business environment. The Dutch government and courts have intervened in Nexperia's management, further complicating the situation, while China has responded with export bans on certain goods. Both sides appear committed to continued dialogue to find a solution benefiting Nexperia, the European economy, and the Chinese economy while safeguarding global supply chain security.
