Teen Driver Arrested for Manslaughter in Discovery Bay

A tragic incident occurred in Discovery Bay when a 17-year-old driver crashed his Hyundai Santa Cruz into a security booth, resulting in the death of 62-year-old guard Rene Bucaro and serious injuries to another guard. The crash happened shortly before midnight, and the driver, who had a provisional license, is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. Eyewitnesses reported that the guards had little time to react before the impact, with dashcam footage showing the truck speeding towards the booth. Although the driver was injured, alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash. This incident marks at least the third time in two years that vehicles have collided with the security booth, raising concerns among residents about safety at the gated community. The driver is currently detained at Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall following his release from the hospital.
