Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest and Greek shipping magnate, has initiated a £2.1 million libel lawsuit against Irini Karipidis, owner of Aris Thessaloniki, over allegations of match-fixing and drug trafficking. The accusations, which Marinakis denies, were made on a website and through mobile billboards promoting the claims. Karipidis asserts she has a 'clear defence of truth' and argues that the lawsuit should be dismissed as an English court is not appropriate for the case. Furthermore, her lawyers claim Marinakis threatened her brother during a match after he refused to participate in fixing a game. Marinakis’ legal team contends that the allegations are entirely baseless and intended to damage his reputation. The case also includes a third defendant, Ari Harow, accused of facilitating the smear campaign against Marinakis.
