Pixar Restores Animated Blooper Reels in Upcoming Elio

Pixar is reviving its nostalgic tradition of animated blooper reels with its upcoming sci-fi comedy Elio, marking the first time in over two decades since Monsters Inc. (2001) that such outtakes will be featured. Elio, releasing on June 20, 2025, tells the story of an alien-obsessed boy mistakenly abducted and made Earth's ambassador, who must navigate intergalactic tensions. The blooper reels, cherished by fans for adding personality and humor, were originally introduced in A Bug’s Life (1998) and continued through Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. before being discontinued, likely due to the extra production effort. Additionally, Elio will include classic Pixar Easter eggs such as the Pizza Planet truck, the Luxo Ball, and A113, along with a notable tease for Pixar's next project, Hoppers. The film is directed by Domee Shi, Madeline Sharafian, and Adrian Molina, featuring a voice cast led by Yonas Kibreab and Zoe Saldaña, and is being celebrated for its originality and return to Pixar's beloved storytelling elements.
