Delivery Delays Hamper CalMac Ferries from Turkey

Ferry deliveries for Scotland's west coast network are facing significant delays due to labor shortages and adverse weather conditions, according to a letter from Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). The MV Isle of Islay, originally expected to be delivered by the end of March, has now been pushed back to at least the end of June, with three additional ships also experiencing similar delays. CMAL identified the unavailability of specialist commissioning engineers as a critical issue impacting the global shipbuilding industry, leading to months-long holdups. Transport Scotland expressed disappointment over the delays but acknowledged they stem from factors beyond the shipyard's control. The ongoing challenges highlight the broader struggles within the shipbuilding sector, exacerbated by external supply chain issues. CMAL is actively monitoring the situation and working to expedite the delivery process.
