Honeywell Invests $10M In UNC Charlotte Innovation Hub, STEM Scholarships

Honeywell is investing $10 million in UNC Charlotte to transform Burson Hall into the Honeywell Innovation Hub, a 155,000-square-foot facility that will enhance engineering and computing education through advanced labs, collaboration spaces, and simulation technologies. This partnership supports 48 Honeywell Scholars with scholarships over the next decade, funds four new faculty positions, and integrates real-world research opportunities including senior design projects with Honeywell engineers. The initiative aligns with UNC Charlotte’s recent Research 1 designation, highlighting its growing prominence as a top-tier research university and its commitment to STEM workforce development in the Charlotte region. The Innovation Hub, expected to open in 2027, will incorporate cutting-edge automation and artificial intelligence technologies, preparing students for careers in data science, engineering, and related fields. Honeywell CEO Vimal Kapur emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to this collaboration, aiming to build a strong foundation for innovation and talent growth in Charlotte. UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon Gaber praised Honeywell’s investment as a statement of confidence in the university’s role as North Carolina’s urban research university.
