Liverpool City Council Expected to Approve £100m Baltic Station Plans
Liverpool City Council's planning committee is set to approve plans for a new £100m rail station in the Baltic Triangle area, which aims to revive the long-unused St James stop. The station, which is part of a broader initiative to enhance public transport in the region, is expected to support 17,000 daily journeys and generate significant economic benefits, estimated at £155m over 60 years. Designed as a modern transport hub, it will feature a single-storey building with improved accessibility, including lifts and expanded underground platforms. Construction could start as early as the end of this year, with completion targeted for late 2027, pending final approvals. This development is one of four planned stations by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram to improve connectivity across the Liverpool City Region. The project is backed by substantial funding, including nearly £100m from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.
