CIP Invests $500 Million in BKV Carbon Capture JV Across US
BKV Corporation and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have formed a joint venture (JV) to advance carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) projects across the United States. CIP is investing $500 million for a 49% stake in the JV, while BKV holds a 51% interest and operational control, contributing its existing Barnett Zero and Eagle Ford projects along with future CCUS assets. The Barnett Zero Project in Texas has already sequestered over 200,000 metric tons of CO2 since November 2023, and the Eagle Ford Project is expected to begin initial injection by mid-2026. This partnership leverages BKV's technical expertise and CIP's experience in low-carbon infrastructure, aiming to expand the pipeline of CCUS projects to meet growing demand for low-carbon energy solutions. BKV CEO Chris Kalnin highlighted the JV's role in accelerating growth and expanding into new markets, with CIP's investment sharing the financial burden and supporting BKV’s net-zero emissions goal for the 2030s. Despite potential risks related to U.S. tax credit stability, the venture remains optimistic about bipartisan support due to its economic benefits for regions like Texas and Louisiana.
