NYC Aesthetician Charged for Counterfeit Botox Injections

Joey Grant Luther, a New York aesthetician, was arrested for allegedly injecting clients with counterfeit Botox sourced from China at his medical spa, JGL Aesthetics, in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. Despite not having a medical license to administer such treatments, Luther conducted injections that resulted in serious health issues for clients, including botulism, impaired vision, and other symptoms. Federal authorities charged him with wire fraud, smuggling, and related offenses involving counterfeit drugs. The investigation revealed that from April 2023 to July 2024, Luther imported and used unapproved Botox and misrepresented it as genuine. He continued offering the injections even after learning of the adverse effects experienced by his clients, falsely assuring them of the product's authenticity. Luther has been released on a $100,000 bail as the legal proceedings continue.
