The New Lenox Fire Protection District received reports of heavy smoke and flames around 10:30 a.m., leading to the evacuation of approximately 60-70 employees. Mayor Tim Baldermann expressed gratitude for the safe evacuation and praised the firefighters' efforts. Firefighters are still on the scene extinguishing hot spots and monitoring air quality in collaboration with the EPA. Traffic rerouting is in effect due to multiple street closures in the vicinity, and the fire's cause remains under investigation. The facility, a staple in the community since 1969, has been left extensively damaged by the blaze.
