A temporary gate collapsed during a cultural event in Kolkata attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, resulting in multiple injuries. The event, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at Dhanadhanya Auditorium, commemorated the 44th death anniversary of legendary actor Uttam Kumar. Eyewitnesses reported that the gate failed while managing the crowd, leading to a stampede. Emergency services quickly responded, providing medical attention to those injured, with some sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the gate's collapse, and a preliminary report is expected soon. The Dhanadhanya Auditorium was inaugurated by Banerjee earlier this year on April 13.
