Ghost of Yotei Links Jin Sakai, Adds Cinematic Modes
Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5 open‑world sequel to Ghost of Tsushima that stars new protagonist Atsu and is set in Ezo (modern Hokkaido); it released worldwide on October 2. The game's main campaign centers on Atsu’s single, relatively linear revenge hunt against the Yōtei Six and advances by gathering clues from missions, activities and random encounters to unlock Golden Gingko Revenge cards. The open world includes numerous side Tales—Old Trails lets you choose and name a horse, Those Who Leave awards a Shamisen tune that unlocks the Song of Revenge and Altars of Reflection, and the Dragonfly Armor grants early armor while introducing a Zeni Hajiki coin‑flick gambling minigame. Critics praise the title’s cinematic ambitions, including built‑in Kurosawa, Miike and Watanabe visual/audio modes, though many reviewers say the much‑promoted wolf companion is underused and inconsistently implemented. A hidden side quest, “The Storm Blade,” directly ties the game to Ghost of Tsushima by revealing Jin Sakai’s sword, mask and armor as relics and suggesting his fate. The PS5 release required a mandatory day‑one patch (version 1.006) even for physical copies, which included enhanced environmental detail, ray‑tracing fixes, performance boosts in high‑character missions and stability/gameplay improvements.
