Super Typhoon Ragasa kills 17, floods Taiwan, Hong Kong, southern China
Super Typhoon Ragasa has caused extensive destruction across southern China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, bringing violent winds, flooding, and landslides. In China, the storm uprooted trees, tore off roofs, and flooded streets, leading to emergency warnings and evacuations affecting about two million people near Guangdong. Hong Kong experienced severe flooding at the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel, where crashing waves inundated the lobby but no injuries were reported, while the city issued its highest-level typhoon warning. Taiwan was particularly hard hit when a barrier lake burst its banks, flooding a town and resulting in at least 17 deaths and numerous missing persons, with military and rescue teams deployed for relief efforts. The storm's impact has triggered widespread disruption and highlighted the vulnerability of coastal and low-lying areas to powerful tropical cyclones. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging caution as recovery and rescue operations proceed.
