Castets, although relatively unknown to the public, has a background in defending public services and fighting fiscal and financial fraud. Macron's decision comes amid a contentious political landscape, with no party holding a clear majority and the NFP's recent setback in losing the National Assembly leadership to a coalition of Macron's centrists and right-wing lawmakers.
