Princess of Wales Walks Backwards Down RAF Steps

The Princess of Wales visited RAF Coningsby on Oct. 2 for her first engagement there since becoming its Royal Honorary Air Commodore in 2023, touring a Typhoon, trying the base’s flight simulator and meeting personnel and families. A widely shared video showed her confidently walking backwards down eight narrow aircraft steps in nearly four‑inch stilettos, joking that her heels wouldn’t slow her. Social media users largely praised her poise and elegance while a minority mocked the attention given to the clip. She wore a tailored grey check Bella Freud suit with an Alexander McQueen top and navy Stuart Weitzman stilettos. During the visit she revealed Prince Louis aspires to be a fighter pilot and bent down to speak with children at the base.
