South Korean Researchers Develop Transport Drone

South Korean researchers have introduced the 'Palletrone', a multi-rotor transport drone capable of self-correcting to maintain level flight, designed to function as a 'flying shopping cart' for transporting goods over uneven terrain, including stairs. Developed by a team at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the drone features a cargo platform and employs a sophisticated center of mass estimation algorithm to ensure stability while being manually guided by the user. With a capacity to carry loads up to 3 kg (6.6 lbs), the Palletrone's current commercial applications may be limited, but its technology has broader implications for sensitive cargo delivery and potential future uses in uncrewed flying taxis. The drone utilizes a physical human-robot interaction technique that anticipates user movements, enhancing its usability.
