West Coast, Alaska Under Tsunami Watch After 8.7 Russia Earthquake

A powerful magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the coast of Russia near the Kamchatka Peninsula has triggered a tsunami watch for the entire U.S. West Coast, including California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. Aftershocks of magnitudes 6.9 and 6.3 followed the initial quake, which occurred at a depth of 46 miles. More serious tsunami warnings have been issued for Hawaii and parts of Alaska, with some Aleutian residents urged to evacuate hazard zones immediately.
