Tennessee Man Charged With 2024 North Carolina Murder

Nicolai Chisala Hubberling, a 21-year-old man from Old Hickory, Tennessee, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2024 killing of 81-year-old William Scott Lowry from Ammon, North Carolina. Lowry went missing last August after being last seen walking near his home on FL McDaniel Road in Bladen County. Authorities received an anonymous tip in April 2025 indicating Hubberling had expressed a fascination with killing animals and disclosed that he shot Lowry while the victim was hitchhiking, then disposed of his body in an unknown location. Following the tip, a joint investigation by the Bladen County and Wilson County Sheriff’s Offices led to Hubberling's arrest on May 29 in Tennessee during a coordinated vehicle takedown near his home. Hubberling is currently held without bond at the Wilson County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to North Carolina. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
