Las Vegas Woman Charged in Deadly Romance Scam

Aurora Phelps, a 43-year-old Las Vegas woman, has been arrested in Mexico and faces federal charges for allegedly luring older men through dating apps to drug and rob them, leading to at least three deaths. Phelps is accused of using sedatives to incapacitate her victims, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars, and attempting to access their financial accounts. She is charged with 21 counts, including wire fraud, identity theft, and kidnapping resulting in death. The FBI has been investigating her crimes, which occurred between 2021 and 2022, and are believed to include at least 11 victims. In one case, Phelps allegedly drugged a man, transported him across the US-Mexico border, and left him dead in a hotel room. Authorities are seeking to identify more victims of this 'romance scam on steroids'.
