2025 Met Gala Raises $71 Million, Celebrates Black Dandyism

The 2025 Met Gala, themed 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' paid tribute to Black dandyism and was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s scholarship on Black diaspora fashion. Pharrell Williams, co-chair and Louis Vuitton's menswear creative director, stood out in a pearl-embellished blazer and debuted a gold Invisalign grill, while his wife Helen Lasichanh wore a bold black Louis Vuitton ensemble. The event, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also featured other notable co-chairs including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and honorary chair LeBron James, and raised a record $71 million for the Costume Institute. Dua Lipa graced the gala in a custom backless Chanel gown adorned with pearls and crystals, accessorized with fine Chanel jewelry, and made her red carpet debut with fiancé Callum Turner. Olympian Noah Lyles wore a Thom Browne suit with signature pearls, underscoring the evening’s celebration of individual style and Black menswear designers. This year's Costume Institute exhibit features twelve sections highlighting various facets of Black style, reinforcing the event's cultural significance.
