Multiple U.S. Cities Host Día de los Muertos Events
Communities across the U.S. are marking Día de los Muertos with free, family-friendly festivals and parades that blend Indigenous Mexican traditions with local expression, emphasizing remembrance through ofrendas, marigolds, candles and sugar skulls. In Reno, Latino Arte and Culture will host a Día de los Muertos festival Sunday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. along E. Pueblo Street featuring music, food, crafts and art. Houston’s 5th Annual Día de los Muertos Parade & Festival, presented by Reliant, returns Nov. 1 to Sam Houston Park (4–10 p.m., parade at 7 p.m.) with community altars, a memorial wall, performances and a musical finale. Austin observances include a UT community ofrenda and the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center’s 18th annual event offering inclusive programming, live music, vendors and meals. Regional highlights also include Montclair, N.J.’s multi-day celebration at Lackawanna Plaza and Long Beach’s Museum of Latin American Art festival (theme Resilience), both featuring cultural dance, music and community altars. Charlotte’s Uptown Día de Muertos, sponsored by Bank of America and hosted by the Latin American Coalition and Levine Museum, will present bilingual performances, a Kids Zone and the Catrina Parade, underscoring the holiday’s mix of mourning and joyful remembrance.
