Día de Muertos Events Across Mexico and U.S.
Día de los Muertos observances this weekend span Mexico and the United States, from Mexico City’s colorful Paseo de la Reforma parade and lakeside vigils—expected to draw more than 1.6 million visitors—to neighborhood altars, cemetery processions, museum programs and festivals across U.S. communities. Events feature traditional altars (ofrendas), marigolds, pan de muerto, music, dance and family activities that blend Indigenous Mexican traditions with local expression and community remembrance. Local listings include Missoula’s 3rd Annual Traditional Día de Muertos on Nov. 1 with a community altar, DJ Big Lou, traditional food, an art exhibit and a screening of Coco, and San Diego State University’s Cultural Hour on Oct. 31. Other U.S. gatherings range from Fairfield’s returned city celebration with a candlelight walk, La Catrina costumes and floating lanterns and Madison East High School’s 8th annual fundraiser performance to a Seattle procession at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery led by Mariachi Real de Seattle, Amelia La Catrina and youth folklórico group Joyas Mestizas. Regional festivals and exhibitions include Los Angeles altar exhibitions and Hollywood Forever events, Sacramento and Vail Valley festivals, the Milwaukee Domes’ decorated Desert Dome, Reno’s bilingual two-day Nevada State Museum program and Bakersfield’s 15th annual Kern County Fairgrounds celebration, while Chula Vista and Sedona’s Tlaquepaque continue their annual community observances.
