Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world boxing champion and Olympic athlete, has been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana. The 28-year-old athlete submitted her joining report to Director General of Police Jitender, who expressed pride in her accomplishments and welcomed her to the force. Zareen, hailing from Nizamabad, is currently on probation for two years and six months and will undergo training as per government guidelines. This appointment comes after the state cabinet's resolution to provide her a job in the sports quota, recognizing her significant contributions to Indian boxing, including gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the Asian Games. The Telangana government has also allocated land for Zareen and other athletes as part of their acknowledgment of their achievements. Despite a disappointing exit in the recent Paris Olympics, Zareen remains optimistic and committed to her new role.
