Mothers Charged with Murdering Their Children

Two mothers from the Western Cape have been arrested in connection with the murders of their children in separate incidents. In Oudtshoorn, 7-year-old Ashwin Jonkerman was found dead on August 11, and his mother, aged 39, was charged with murder after a post-mortem revealed he died of strangulation. She appeared in court on August 23, with her case postponed for legal representation. Meanwhile, in Plettenberg Bay, a 23-year-old woman was arrested following the discovery of her three-day-old infant's body on August 19, also charged with murder. Both women are currently in custody, and investigations into their cases are ongoing.
