A series of earthquakes struck off the eastern coast of Japan's Kyushu island, with the largest tremor recorded at a magnitude of 7.1, while the Japan Meteorological Agency initially reported a 6.9 magnitude. The earthquakes prompted tsunami advisories predicting waves of up to 3.3 feet along the southern coast of Kyushu and nearby Shikoku islands. Fortunately, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries. A tsunami threat to Hawaii was deemed nonexistent shortly after the quakes. In response to the tremors, operations for bullet trains in Kyushu were temporarily halted. The situation remains under observation as authorities monitor the aftermath.
