Arizona State University Trials Facial Recognition for Football Game Entry
Arizona State University (ASU) is trialing facial recognition technology to streamline entry for students at Mountain America Stadium, beginning as early as the October 25 game against Houston. Students who opt into the program can enter through fast lanes by simply walking past a scanner, eliminating the need to present tickets physically. This initiative comes after two sold-out home games and record student attendance, including a season opener that sold out for the first time since 1998, with 14,280 students attending. ASU is among the first college programs adopting this technology for ticketing, following the University of Florida, which implemented a similar system for the 2025-26 football season. The technology is part of broader efforts to manage increased demand efficiently, alongside mobile ticketing and online claims, enhancing the overall fan experience. Officials anticipate gradually expanding the system to all fans beyond students over time.
