NHTSA Probes Engine Failures in 877,710 GM Vehicles

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into approximately 877,710 General Motors vehicles, including popular models like the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, due to reports of engine failures. These vehicles, from model years 2019 to 2024 and equipped with L87 V8 engines, have been subject to 39 complaints citing sudden engine seizure and connecting rod issues that could lead to a breach of the engine block. Although no injuries or fires have been reported, the potential for power loss poses significant safety risks. The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation aims to assess the severity and scope of these problems, which could lead to a recall. GM has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the investigation. The probe highlights the importance of vehicle safety and reliability for GM's best-selling models.
