Arch Manning Listed Questionable After Concussion

Texas QB Arch Manning remains in concussion protocol after taking a helmet-to-turf hit in overtime of Texas' 45-38 win at Mississippi State; he returned to practice Wednesday and was listed as "questionable" on the SEC availability report. Coach Steve Sarkisian said Manning is progressing through NCAA/SEC concussion-management steps and will be cleared only by team medical staff, and Texas will provide daily injury-report updates ahead of Saturday's home game against No. 9 Vanderbilt. If Manning is not cleared, graduate-transfer Matthew Caldwell — who replaced Manning in overtime and threw the 10-yard game-winning touchdown to Emmett Mosley V — would start against Vanderbilt; Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea said his team will prepare for both quarterbacks. Manning posted a career-high 346 passing yards and three touchdowns in the game and has about 1,795–1,845 yards with 14–15 TDs this season. Safety Michael Taaffe (thumb), center Cole Hutson and edge rusher Lance Jackson were also listed as questionable on the availability report.
