Severe Storms Kill Three, Leave 320,000 Without Power in Michigan
Severe storms swept through Michigan over the weekend, resulting in three fatalities when a tree fell on a vehicle in Climax Township. The storms caused widespread power outages, with over 400,000 homes and businesses affected across the Midwest, particularly in Michigan, where utility companies reported significant restoration efforts underway. Wind gusts reached nearly 100 mph in some areas, prompting tornado warnings and extensive damage reports, including destroyed structures and downed trees. In addition to the tragic accident, several people were hospitalized, with one in critical condition. Governor Gretchen Whitmer activated the State Emergency Operations Center in response to the severe weather, which was also linked to damaging storms across neighboring states, including Indiana and Tennessee. As recovery efforts continue, additional storms are forecasted for the Southeast, potentially impacting millions more.
