Lewis Morgan Named MLS Comeback Player of the Year

Lewis Morgan of the New York Red Bulls has been awarded the 2024 MLS Comeback Player of the Year after a remarkable recovery from severe hip injuries that limited him to just five matches in 2023. Following hip surgery in September 2023, Morgan defied expectations and returned to score 13 goals and provide seven assists in 29 matches, leading his team in goals and contributing to their playoff qualification for a record 15th consecutive season. He is the first Red Bulls player to win this award and the first to receive an MLS Year-End Award since 2018. Morgan's injury history included a rare grade 3c psoas tear, which he struggled with throughout the previous season, leading to multiple unsuccessful comeback attempts. His successful return has also secured him a spot on Scotland's national team, marking his first call-up since 2019.
