Diamondbacks' Corbin Burnes Misses Cubs Series, Debuts April 1

Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes will not pitch in the team's opening series against the Chicago Cubs due to his preference for a regular routine, a decision described as an error by manager Torey Lovullo. Burnes, who recently signed a six-year, $210 million contract, will instead start in the fifth game of the season on April 1 against the New York Yankees. Lovullo emphasized the importance of respecting Burnes' routine, which he believes contributes to his elite performance. Burnes faced a setback in his last spring outing against the Brewers, allowing seven earned runs, but previously showed strong form with a 1.35 ERA over his first five spring games. The Cubs will face Diamondbacks starters Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, and Eduardo Rodriguez in the four-game series. Gallen, named the Opening Day starter, is expected to lead the pitching lineup against the Cubs.
