This track, which reimagines a poignant moment from Dante Alighieri's 'Inferno,' explores an alternate ending where Dante chooses to remain with Virgil rather than enter Heaven alone. The atmospheric song incorporates experimental soundscapes and haunting vocals, reflecting the emotional turmoil of their journey. Hozier has expressed that 'Hymn to Virgil' represents a culmination of his work from the 'Unreal Unearth' sessions, which included a UK Number One hit, 'Too Sweet.' The deluxe album also includes previously unreleased tracks and is available in various physical formats. Hozier's performance on 'Saturday Night Live' is scheduled for December 21, 2024.
