B.C. Wildfire Service Reports 350 Active Fires
Recent rainfall and cooler temperatures in British Columbia have led to a reduction in wildfire activity, with active wildfires decreasing to 336 as of July 31, down from over 400 last week. The BC Wildfire Service reports that 42% of these fires are burning out of control, with significant concentrations in the Prince George and Southeast fire centres. Evacuation orders have also decreased, with 19 orders and 22 alerts currently in effect. Notable wildfires include the Dogtooth FSR and Argenta Creek fires, both of which have prompted evacuation orders. The number of personnel combating the wildfires has increased to over 1,500, reflecting ongoing efforts to manage the situation. The majority of blazes were ignited by recent lightning storms, underscoring the challenges faced by firefighting teams.
