Queens Woman Charged With Murdering Building Superintendent

Sandra Coto Navarro, 48, has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of her building superintendent, Jose Portillo, in Queens. The incident arose from a dispute over $24,000 in back rent, and Navarro allegedly killed Portillo by striking him with a heavy pipe and attempting to dismember him. His body was discovered wrapped in garbage bags under a bed in her apartment following a welfare check initiated by Portillo's coworkers. Surveillance footage showed Portillo entering Navarro's apartment but not leaving, contradicting her initial claim that he had left after collecting rent. The medical examiner confirmed the cause of death as homicide due to blunt trauma to the head. Navarro faces additional charges of tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon.
