Susan Sarandon Set for UK Stage Debut in Old Vic Premiere
Susan Sarandon is set to make her UK theatre debut in the play Mary Page Marlowe at London's Old Vic, starring alongside Andrea Riseborough, who will portray the title character at different ages in this time-jumping mosaic spanning 70 years. The production, directed by Matthew Warchus in his final season as artistic director, will run from September 23 to November 1 and will be performed entirely in-the-round, creating an immersive theatrical experience. Sarandon expressed being "terrified but excited" to make her debut at the Old Vic, while Riseborough returns to the British stage for the first time since 2008 and described it as an honor to work alongside Sarandon. Mary Page Marlowe, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Tracy Letts, explores the life of a woman over decades, with multiple actors playing her at various stages. Warchus praised the play and the cast, highlighting Letts as one of America's greatest living writers and noting the production will feature a large, talented creative team. This high-profile staging marks a significant cultural event for London theatre, bringing together acclaimed American talent for a deeply personal and innovative production.
