Gardaí Investigate Multiple Threats Against Tánaiste Simon Harris' Family in Wicklow
Simon Harris, Ireland's Tánaiste, and his family have been subjected to multiple organised online threats over the past week, including bomb threats and direct violent intimidation. These threats, made via encrypted platforms like Telegram and social media, have prompted a major Garda investigation involving the Special Detective Unit, armed officers, and the Garda Dog unit. Harris condemned the abuse as beyond political debate, describing it as intimidation designed to force him out of public office and emphasizing the distress caused to his family, particularly his children. A woman in her 30s was arrested in connection with one of the threats but released without charge, with a file prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardaí are actively working to identify those responsible, including seeking court orders to trace IP addresses, highlighting the seriousness and organised nature of the campaign against Harris and his family. Harris has vowed to continue his public service despite the threats, calling for such behaviour to be unequivocally condemned in society.
