Adidas Unveils Trionda With Tracking Chip
Adidas and FIFA unveiled Trionda as the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, celebrating the tournament’s three host nations (United States, Canada and Mexico) and to be used across 104 matches. The ball uses a four-panel, tetrahedron-inspired construction that forms a central triangle and sports a red, green and blue palette with a maple leaf, eagle and star for the hosts and gold embellishments referencing the World Cup trophy. Building on 2022’s Al Rihla, Trionda incorporates an AI-powered/motion-sensor chip embedded at the side that streams location data to stadium anchor points about 500 times per second, enabling real-time tracking of touches and other metrics to assist referees and deepen performance analysis. Adidas says the sensor unlocks events and interactions optical systems previously could not capture, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino praised the design as reflecting the unity and passion of the host nations. The ball, which adidas says took more than three-and-a-half years to develop, was premiered with holographic and projection displays and is scheduled to debut on June 11, 2026 at Estadio Azteca when Mexico opens the tournament.
