Sporting Kansas City acquires Dejan Joveljic from LA Galaxy for $4 million

Sporting Kansas City has officially acquired striker Dejan Joveljic from LA Galaxy for a reported fee of $4 million, marking the first cash-for-player trade in MLS history as per new roster rules. Joveljic, who has signed a three-year Designated Player contract through 2027 with an option for 2028, had a standout 2024 season, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists, which included a game-winning goal in the MLS Cup Final. The transfer comes after the departure of striker Alan Pulido, leaving a gap that Joveljic is expected to fill in Kansas City's attack. During his time with LA Galaxy, Joveljic scored 45 goals in 123 appearances and became a key player in their successful campaign to win a record sixth MLS Cup. Sporting KC aims to improve their offensive performance following a disappointing 2024 season in which they finished 13th in the Western Conference. The club is also looking to sign additional players to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
