Kyrgios Prepares for Australian Open Comeback

Nick Kyrgios is set to return to the Australian Open in January 2025, using a protected ranking of No. 21 after a two-year hiatus due to knee, foot, and wrist injuries. He will be among six men and six women utilizing protected rankings, allowing them entry into the main draw despite long absences. Other notable players making comebacks with protected rankings include Japan's Kei Nishikori and Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic. Kyrgios, who has been preparing for his return by participating in the World Tennis League, is one of 11 Australians in the main draw, with Alex de Minaur leading the men's contingent. Olivia Gadecki is the only Australian woman to have gained direct entry. The tournament will also feature defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka as top seeds, with Novak Djokovic aiming for his 11th Australian Open title.
