Soderstrom Powers Athletics to Sweep of White Sox
Tyler Soderstrom hit his league-leading ninth home run and drove in his 18th RBI, raising his batting average to .315 and leading the Oakland Athletics to an 8-0 win and a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Soderstrom matched historic franchise marks and became the first AL/NL player age 23 or younger with three multi-homer games in his team's first 17 games. The Athletics' offense was further boosted by home runs from Lawrence Butler, JJ Bleday, and Brent Rooker. JP Sears led a dominant pitching effort for the A's second shutout of the season, while White Sox top prospect Edgar Quero made his MLB debut but went hitless. The sweep lifted the Athletics to a 9-10 record as they shift toward playoff contention, while the White Sox fell to a league-worst 4-14 in the wake of last season’s 121 losses. Soderstrom's historic April has been pivotal in the Athletics' early resurgence.
