Remco Evenepoel Wins Third Consecutive Time Trial World Championship

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel has won his third consecutive time trial World Championship title in Kigali, joining an elite group of riders with three or more such victories, including Tony Martin, Fabian Cancellara, and Michael Rogers. Prior to the championship, Evenepoel expressed his determination to secure a historic hat-trick, aiming to emulate Rogers and approach the record four titles held by Cancellara and Martin. He praised the fast, high-altitude Kigali course, highlighting its lack of steep climbs and a challenging cobbled ascent to the finish, which he believed suited his strengths. Despite limited training on his time trial bike due to safety concerns, Evenepoel prepared extensively and remained focused on delivering his best performance. His main competition was expected to be Tadej Pogačar, the reigning road race world champion and four-time Tour de France winner, who sought a rare double win in both disciplines. Evenepoel acknowledged that the strongest rider would prevail on the demanding course, regardless of his opponent.
