Chandigarh Launches Awareness Campaign for Beggar-Free City

The Chandigarh Administration has launched an eight-day awareness campaign from October 21 to 28 aimed at creating a beggar-free city. The initiative, inaugurated by UT adviser Rajiv Verma, addresses issues of begging and child labour while fostering understanding of the challenges faced by those in need. Various departments, including police and education, will engage in rescue operations and educational activities, while NSS volunteers will conduct flash mobs to promote awareness. Citizens are urged to refrain from giving alms to beggars and to donate winter essentials at designated 'Neki ki Deewar' locations. The campaign emphasizes the importance of community involvement in supporting the vulnerable without perpetuating cycles of exploitation. Verma encouraged documenting acts of kindness on social media to promote the initiative with the hashtag '#beggarfreechandigarh'.
