Google Veo 3 AI Faces Global Racism Scandal

Google has expanded its Veo 3 AI video generation tool to paid subscribers in over 159 countries, including India and the Middle East, via the Gemini platform and AI Pro plan. Veo 3 allows users to create eight-second, 720p video clips with synchronized speech, ambient sounds, and music from text or image prompts, and is being integrated into Canva and YouTube Shorts. All generated content is marked with visible and invisible SynthID watermarks for transparency and traceability. Despite Google's claims of responsible AI use, Veo 3 has been used to create racist and antisemitic videos that have spread widely on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, sometimes violating platform hate speech policies. Media watchdogs have flagged these viral clips and questioned the effectiveness of Veo 3's moderation systems. Google has stated it is evaluating the tool's outputs and working to improve safeguards, but has not addressed specific incidents publicly.
