Fire Prompts American Airlines Jet Evacuation in Denver

An American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight preparing to depart from Denver to Miami was evacuated at Denver International Airport after a maintenance issue with one of the aircraft's tires caused a fire during takeoff. The Denver Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the fire. All 173 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated; one person was hospitalized with a minor injury, and five others were evaluated at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation and the aircraft has been removed from service for inspection. Passengers were transported by bus to the terminal and rebooked on a replacement flight. Airport operations were temporarily delayed but have since returned to normal.
