Oregon officials admitted that a data entry error by the DMV led to the wrongful registration of at least 306 non-citizens to vote since 2021. This mistake occurred as a result of the state's automatic voter registration program linked to driver's license applications. Only two of the mistakenly registered non-citizens have cast ballots. Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade assured that those affected would be notified and removed from voter rolls unless they prove eligibility. Both Griffin-Valade and Governor Tina Kotek emphasized that this error will not impact the 2024 election and defended the benefits of the automatic voter registration system. Corrective actions are being taken to ensure such errors do not happen in the future.
