Frank Grillo Joins DC Universe in Creature Commandos

Frank Grillo, known for his role as Crossbones in the MCU, is set to debut as Rick Flag Sr. in the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos, part of the new DC Universe under James Gunn. Grillo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play a significant role from the beginning, contrasting it with his experience in the MCU where his character was quickly sidelined. He emphasized the importance of Rick Flag Sr. to the series and appreciated the creative freedom Gunn provided to shape the character based on his own mannerisms. The Creature Commandos will feature a team of monsters, diverging from the traditional human-centric narratives, and is positioned as a prelude to the live-action DC films starting with Superman in 2025. Grillo's involvement marks a shift as he transitions from Marvel to DC, highlighting the rewarding differences in storytelling between the two franchises. The series is set to premiere on Max on December 5, 2023, with the first two episodes available at launch.
