The court emphasized the need to identify corrupt elements within the Punjab Police, stressing that the investigation should not merely scapegoat lower-level officials while protecting higher officers. Concerns were raised about an inconclusive report from a previous committee, which suggested it was 'highly improbable' the interviews occurred in custody, prompting the court to question the integrity of the findings. The court has directed the Director-General of Police to report on a range of criminal cases linked to the interviews, indicating a potential rise in crime since their broadcast. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been entrusted with ensuring a comprehensive investigation, with the Chief Secretary of Punjab required to provide necessary support.
