Mattel Develops Live-Action View-Master Film

Mattel is developing a live-action feature film based on its classic 3-D image toy, View-Master, in collaboration with Sony Pictures and Escape Artists. Introduced in 1939, View-Master has been a beloved childhood staple that sparks imagination through its stereoscopic viewing device and 3-D image reels. The film is described as a 'four-quadrant family adventure' and aims to create a modern narrative while honoring the toy's legacy. Producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Tony Shaw from Escape Artists will oversee the project, with Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur de Koós representing Mattel Films. This initiative follows the success of Mattel's previous film, Barbie, which grossed over $1.4 billion, indicating a strategic push to adapt more of its toy properties into movies. Other ongoing projects include a new Masters of the Universe film and a Bob the Builder animated feature.
