Hydro One Announces New Transmission Line Project

Hydro One Limited has announced its acquisition of a 48% interest in the East-West Tie Limited Partnership for $257 million, enhancing its role in Ontario's transmission infrastructure. Concurrently, Hydro One has been directed to develop a new 260-kilometer, 500 kV transmission line from Wawa to Porcupine, aimed at addressing the expected 75% increase in electricity demand by 2050 due to population growth and industrial electrification. The project, set to be operational by 2030, emphasizes collaboration with Indigenous communities, allowing them a chance to invest in a 50% equity stake. Hydro One's president David Lebeter stressed the importance of electricity for economic growth and community support in northern Ontario.
